North reckons Wales can fire

George North insists Wales can rediscover the form that saw them clinch the 2012 Grand Slam in this season’s RBS 6 Nations.

Wales have lost seven straight Tests since sweeping all before them in the Championship and beating the Barbarians in June.

But North has revealed Wales have faced up to the dip in fortunes and are ready to breathe fire in the Six Nations – beginning with the February 2 clash with Ireland.

“It is hard to ignore the facts,” said North.

“We needed to review and acknowledge what went wrong and that is something we have done.

“Now we need to draw a line underneath it. It is a new year and a new start.

“We have had our dip in form now and we know we were doing a lot of things wrong.

“A lot of stick came our way (after the autumn) so we are pleased to be back together again.

“We will put things right and push forward. We have talked about the top two inches and doing our individual jobs well.

“That is something we need to improve this campaign, knowing our roles and being accurate in everything we do. We must do everything to our full ability.”

Wales can take confidence from their recent record against their Celtic cousins, with a 100 per cent record in the last three clashes.

North was at his barnstorming best in the Aviva Stadium victory 12 months ago, contributing a try and creating another.

And the Scarlets wing admits he still has fond memories of his Dublin demolition job.

“The win in Ireland was great last year, particularly to win it at the end when we have so often come out the loser in those situations,” he said.

“Winning is key and we need to get a good platform early doors again.

“I was pretty happy with my performance last year and I’ll be pretty happy if I can do that again this year.

“It is up there with the best and to win out in Ireland was a great experience.”
