The Blues take on Leicester at Abercwmboi RFC this Wednesday (KO 2.30pm) in what will be their third game in a week.

Following previous victories against Gloucester and Northampton Saints, the Blues ran out 37-0 winners against Munster but it is the clash with Leicester that performance manager Richard Hodges sees as the acid test for where his side are at.

“The boys have done very well so far but it’s all about the Leicester game, it’s our toughest pre-season fixture by far,” he said.

“We are happy with where we are so we’ll see what happens on Wednesday,” he added.

“Leicester have a very professional academy and are very well run so if we get a result against them we know we’re on the right path.”

Unbeaten in their three pre-season games, the Blues continued their fine run of form by dominating Munster as they raced into a 32-0 lead at half-time.

Jarrod Evans was the star of the show scoring 22 points as the Blues ran in three tries to put the game to bed inside 40 minutes.

Jack James, Jack Huntley, Shane Young and Evans himself all crossed in the first-half with Evans adding a second try in the second half leaving Hodges surprised at how well his team performed.

“It was a very professional performance,” he said.

“But it was a score line that surprised us to be honest but we were very happy with how the game went.”

Fly-half Evans, aged just 16, was deservedly named man of the match against Munster with his performance showing the strength in depth the Blues have at U18 level.

“Three quarters of the squad are a year young so it’s a big positive for the region,” said Hodges.

“But this is the big one for us, Leicester will be a real challenge.”
