The farmer’s son from Carmarthen made his Scarlets debut last season, as a replacement in the LV=Cup triumph over London Irish.
And the 18-year-old has been rewarded for his performances for Llanelli and Wales in the recent Junior World Championship with the new contract.
“It is great that I have been able to get this contract and hopefully I get a chance to show what I can do this season,” said Thomas, who has represented Wales through all the age-grades.
“I know there is a lot of competition, but if I can look after my game, keep on learning, keep on improving, hopefully I can push hard for a place.”
Thomas isn’t your stereotypical modern-day forward in terms of size, but is a menace at the breakdown, sighting Australia’s David Pocock and Michael Hooper as the players he watches most.
But Thomas’ first full-time contract will mean he is more than kept busy between rugby and the family farm.
“I used to get up early, do a few hours in the morning before training in the afternoon and then get back on the farm
afterwards,” added Thomas.
“Now I’m training full time I will have to do a bit more in the evenings, helping my dad with the milking, feeding, whatever I can do. It is something I really enjoy, it is nice to go back after training and chill out, and hopefully after rugby I can take over the farm.”
