The Magners League Grand Final is set to take place on the same weekend as the Barbarians clash with England and Young who is set to coach the famous invitational side, hopes he will be forced to miss the Twickenham clash and instead will be leading his side into the Magners League showpiece event.

The Blues are currently fifth in the league table, four points off the all-important play-off places but with four games left to play. One of those is also a crucial game in hand over all the teams above them.

“I’m really keeping my fingers crossed that I miss the first game,” Young told the BBC.

“The Barbarians have got England the first game and if we get to the final of the play-offs obviously I can’t do that first game.”

The Baa Baas then face Wales at the Millennium Stadium on June 4 to celebrate the Welsh Rugby Union’s 130th anniversary.

“It would be nice to step in to do the Wales game. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable experience, mixing with players you don’t normally coach,” added Young.

“The Barbarians have got a huge tradition.

“We don’t have the same intensity and training and same focus as Wales would have. But it’s still an enjoyable experience for myself.”
