RGC 1404 will be hoping to make it third time lucky this weekend when they take on the Dragons in the WRU Regional Age Grade Championship.

The under 18s play host to the visiting men of Gwent at Eirias Parc, while the under 16s entertain their visitors at Rydal School. Both games kick-off at 3pm.

For the under 18s, it’s an early opportunity to strike back after last week’s heavy defeat at the hands of the Ospreys.

Having gone down to the Blues in Merthyr the previous week, the hosts shipped 13 tries as one of the pre-competition favourites ran riot at Parc Eirias.

The coaches have made four changes to last week’s squad; Mareddyd Francis (Exiles) comes into the second row and James Roberts (Mold) on to the left wing in place of James Harding and Teddy Brittain respectively. Jon Evans (Rhyl) and Harri Evans (Llandudno) are both included on the replacements’ bench.

RGC 1404 team manager Will Morecombe said, “In spite of successive defeats at the hands of the Blues and Ospreys, the mood within the squad is still positive, and this Sunday’s game gives the players an opportunity to show what they are capable of.”

The game will be the first for the Dragons whose scheduled midweek match against the Blues at Rodney Parade fell foul of the inclement weather.

At under 16 level, the Dragons will be seeking a second win in three games. Having beaten Blues South at Cross Keys in their opening game, they went down narrowly to Blues North at Abercwmboi on Wednesday.

In contrast, RGC will be looking to build on their much-improved performance in last week’s game against the Ospreys. Leading 29-9 early in the second half, they eventually went down 40-32 to a side that had already won away at the Scarlets.
