Maesteg were crowned champions of Division Two West with a hard-earned victory over Kidwelly at Llynfi Road.

The hosts were behind with only minutes to spare against their fellow promotion-chasers – and were only still in-touch thanks to six penalties from the boot of fly-half Robbie Evans. But wing Chris Jones popped up to score the decisive late try and seal the title in style.

DFP – Leaderboard

With second-placed BP Llandarcy without-a-game, Waunarlydd stepped up their promotion push with a crushing victory over Aberavon Quins. Johnny Davies and Daniel Joseph each bagged a brace, and Nathan Hart, Alun Pope and Tom Gronow also crossed as they eased to a 43-15 triumph.

Tondu are still dreaming of championship glory in Division Three South West after they smashed Cwmavon at Pandy Park. With leaders Skewen not playing this weekend, Tondu are now seven points behind with a game in hand.

Wing-pair Craig Fox and Darren Thomas led the way for the hosts with a brace of tries each. There were also scores for Matthew Morgan and Dean Howard as the Waterwheelers proved too strong, winning 39-14.

With most of their fellow strugglers not in action, Nantyfyllon ensured their own safety with a fine 31-29 victory over Ystalyfera.

Hooker Richard Hicks scored a double, while there were also scores for his front-row colleague Michael Harries, flanker Ryan Osgood and scrum-half Lloyd O’Connor. But it took a superb touchline kick in the last minute by substitute fly-half Lee Bumford to seal the points for the hosts.

Elsewhere Glynneath moved up to second with a 50-6 humiliation of relegated Maesteg Quins and Seven Sisters pulled off a memorable 30-17 win against Kenfig Hill.

Newcastle Emlyn were confirmed champions of Division Three West – despite going down 18-13 at second-placed Llandeilo.

Skipper Chris Mosely and wing Emyr Jones scored for the hosts, but Emlyn got the single bonus-point they needed to confirm the title.

Llandeilo, meanwhile, confirmed their promotion play-off place with the victory.

At the other end, Lampeter moved a step closer to guaranteeing their survival with a 15-0 victory over relegated Llanybydder.

Wing Lyn Jones and full-back Tim Evans crossed for the hosts, who now need just a point to seal their place in the league for next season.
