Holah, 33, is out of contract at the end of the season but the Welsh region hope the New Zealander will follow British Lions star Tommy Bowe by committing his future to the Liberty Stadium.

Ospreys director of coaching Scott Johnson said: “We will sit down with Marty and see how he is feeling physically. But I love him and we definitely want to keep him. He is a wonderful human being and rugby player. It’s a great combination.”

Holah, capped 36 times by the All Blacks, has enjoyed a successful stint since he joined the Ospreys from Waikato Chiefs in 2007.

The Kiwi was instrumental in the New Zealand Maori side which beat the British Lions two years earlier but his chances at Test level have been limited behind current IRB World Player of the Year Richie McCaw.

Johnson added: “You only have to spend five minutes in Marty’s company to see what he brings to our squad.

“He’s tough, resilient and the ultimate professional and in professional sport, you can’t have enough Marty Holah’s. He’s a special player and man.”
