Roberts did his Test chances no harm in the Lions’ 39-3 victory over the Sharks in Durban last night, causing problems for the opposition defence all evening and once again linked well with Ireland captain Brian O’Driscoll in the centre.
However, Roberts twice had to receive treatment from the Lions medical team after taking big hits. But, with the first Test only 10 days away, McGeechan says there is no cause for alarm.
“There is no problem with Jamie Roberts’ shoulder. He took a heavy bang in the first-half, but it was only bruising and Dr James Robson is happy with the way it looks,” said McGeechan.
“We wanted to give Riki Flutey some game time, so it fitted in nicely.”
McGeechan also said that the Wales and Cardiff Blues back row duo of Martyn Williams and Andy Powell will be fit to play against Western Province on Saturday. Powell missed the opening game with a hand injury that is still giving him trouble, while Williams has been nursing a bruised shoulder.
“Andy Powell has been told that, although it might be painful, there are no structural changes to his hand. He is fit to play and doesn’t have two fractures,” said McGeechan.
“Both he and Martyn are fit for selection for Saturday.”
