Davies out to make Ospreys mark

Summer signing Barry Davies says that he’s looking forward to making his mark in an Ospreys shirt after meeting up with his new team-mates for the first time earlier this week.

The 28-year-old Welsh international full-back has signed a two year contract with the Ospreys after spending the last two seasons in France with Brive, and he says that even an experienced player like him wasn’t immune to first day nerves.

He commented: “I woke up on Monday morning feeling pretty excited, a little nervous even. It’s a fresh challenge for me, a new start with new experiences and I’m really looking forward to making my mark in an Ospreys shirt.

“It was a pretty tough first day with fitness tests, but it’s good to be here, working hard and starting to bond with my new team-mates. Although I know plenty of the boys it’s my first time as an Osprey so it’s still a step into the unknown for me.

It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks for Davies since he penned his Ospreys contract, but he says that having moved himself lock, stock and barrel back to Wales, he is excited about the challenges that lie ahead.

“It’s been quite hectic. It’s only a couple of weeks since I signed and then I had to go straight back to France and sort my things out that end, empty my house out and drive everything back. I’m living in Mike Phillips’ house at the moment while he’s away. I’ll be moving into my own place next week and as I get used to being an Osprey hopefully everything will start to settle down as I get into the swing of things,” he saidl

“I’ve got a massive season ahead of me, make no mistake about it. We’ve got two quality full backs here already in Lee Byrne and Gareth Owen so there’s real competition for places here and it’s going to be a real challenge to get a regular place, but it’s a challenge that excites me.

“I had a great time in France and I think that it benefited me, personally and professionally, I’m definitely a better player for the experience of playing and living in France. Now, I’ve come into a completely new environment where there’ll be different challenges for me to face up to, but I’m really looking forward to it.”
