Rising Stars raise anti-domestic violence awareness

Wales Under 18s squad added their weight to the anti-domestic violence campaign launched by the WRU and the four police services in Wales for this year’s RBS 6 Nations Championship.

The nation’s rising stars kicked off their Six Nations campaign with a 27-15 win over France in Soissons on Saturday 21 February and are set to host Italy at Talbot Athletic Ground, Aberavon on Sunday 22 March before travelling to Parma in April where they will face Ireland, Scotland and England.

At their Vale of Glamorgan base, the team members took time out of training to model the anti-domestic violence white ribbon emblem and show their support for this worthwhile campaign.

Blues and Aberdare flanker Thomas Young, who was first on the score sheet for Wales with his try against France, was pleased to join his senior regional colleague Jamie Roberts to urge rugby clubs around Wales to back the campaign. He said:

“This is a great cause which will benefit from the backing of the national squads, the regions and all rugby clubs across Wales.

“I am delighted to support the initiative and hope that I will be joined by other rugby players across Wales to draw attention to and take a stand against domestic violence in Wales.”

The campaign provides the opportunity for people from across to show support for action on domestic violence and representatives from the WRU are urging Welsh rugby clubs to submit a photograph of a representative wearing their respective club colours whilst displaying a white ribbon.

The photographs will go towards creating an online mural of support for the campaign and will also be displayed as part of a slide show on the big screens at the Millennium Stadium.

Clubs are asked to e-mailing a picture of one of their players wearing the ribbon to support@walestacklesdomesticabuse.com and support for the campaign can viewed at the campaign web-site: www.walestacklesdomesticabuse.com
