Neath opened the scoring within two minutes of the kick-off. Quick ball from a scrum saw some superb handling skills which created a try under the sticks for fullback Kerin Lake. The conversion was knocked over by Bethan Preece.
For the next 28 minutes Neath dominated possession but sterling defence by the north Walians kept them at bay however Neath eventually increased their lead seven minutes from the break.
Off the top of a line-out, Neath ran the ball to the opposite side of the field only to be tackled less than a foot short. A ruck was then formed and fast ball along the line produced Neath’s second try by Kathryn Joseph. Preece kicked her second conversion taking Neath’s lead to 14-0.
Neath tormented Dolgellau in the opening exchanges of the second half but Dolgellau doggedly hung on. In a game which Neath had held the upper hand for so long, suddenly it was left hanging in the balance when Dolgellau scored two tries through Louise Akers and Lowri Evans with the latter landing a conversion.
But time ran out for Dolgellau as Neath hung on to secure victory. Lowri Blain was voted Dolgellau’s player of the match while Sian Williams was Neath’s player of the match.
