Hookers face off in big match build-up
Cardiff’s Ross Johnston and Llandovery’s Emyr Phillips had a taste of life at the stadium as they went there together to promote the game, a clash between very different clubs and cultures. Phillips explained, “It is West against East but it is also country against city and we cannot wait to get on with it. “We have had a tough season to be bottom of the league with a lot of injuries. The Cup has given a chance to go out and play without pressure and we have really enjoyed it, and have had some good wins. “I have been involved with the club all my life and my father played for them, but the whole town is very excited. “I have come here a couple of times to see Wales play and I have great memories here. To know all the good players who have played here, the big names and the good games, it’s great to be part of it.” Cardiff are at the other end of the scale as the capital city club who have lifted the Cup seven times in their distinguished history. However, they have not been the final since winning in 1997 and that is something the current players are delighted to have put right. “I have just been told we have not been in the final for a decade, but anything can happen and if we work hard then hopefully the Cup will take care of itself,” said Johnston. “The hard work at the start of the season is paying off now. We said then we wanted to have a god cup run and we have. We are just thrilled to bits to be in the final. “Our average age in the front row is 21, every game we go out we are learning. Llandovery have a strong pack but we are learning all the time and hopefully we will learn something on Saturday. “It is one of the best stadiums in the world, it will be a special day with Cardiff supporters, family and friends, so I just hope it won’t affect us too much.”
“We are big underdogs coming into the game but we have had that tag in every game so far. I think you can see in the results in the premiership that anyone can beat anyone on their day so we will see how it goes.
