Morgan keen to get hands back on Cup
Having previously won the Powergen Cup with Leeds Tykes Morgan knows what it takes to win big cup matches. As the EDF Energy Cup semi finals approach this Saturday the Neath born player is raring to go having not played a match since the Blues faced Glasgow at the end of January.
“We’re all really looking forward to the match, hopefully there’ll be 50,000 people there and at regional level it doesn’t get much bigger than that,” said Morgan.
“I’ve only played once in the last eight weeks which has been a little bit frustrating, but I’ve taken the positives and I’m all ready to go on Saturday. They are a good team and have few weaknesses, so we’ll have to be at the top of our game to get the result.”
The rangy back row forward has impressed with his performances with the Blues and was called up to the Wales squad for the first time during this year’s RBS Six Nations tournament.
“My focus is on the Cardiff Blues and playing well for them and hopefully if I do that it will do my chances no harm for being selected for the Wales summer tour of Australia,” Morgan continued. “I know that is a massive goal for a lot of boys, it’s a big carrot that they are dangling but all you can do is go on the field and perform.”
Scott Morgan was in St David’s shopping centre with fellow team mate Nick Macleod helping to promote the match. The Cardiff Blues have already sold over 7,000 tickets for match.
“We’ve got a keen rivalry between the two teams and obviously this is magnified as it’s a semi final match.” said Macleod. “The boys have been training well all week we’ve had some class international players coming back from a good end to the RBS Six Nations which has also been a boost.”
The match has caught the imagination of the Blues supporters who have already purchased over 7,000 tickets for the match directly from the Cardiff Blues ticket office. Bishop of Llandaff High School product Macleod, who celebrates his 24th birthday on Friday, remembers big Welsh finals being played at the National Stadium.
“Being a local boy I remember going to watch the Schweppes Cup finals at the old Cardiff Arms Park National Stadium,” continued MacLeod. “They were always huge events so this is going to be a sort of Welsh Final if you like.
“It’s all about playing well for the Blues and hopefully it’s a great stage to play on and playing against fellow Welshmen. I don’t have anything special planned for my birthday, it will be a quiet one, but hopefully I’ll have a chance to celebrate with the Blues on Saturday.”
