Williams insists Wales can win

Williams sank the Wallabies with a late try the last time the countries met as Wales clinched a dramatic 24-22 win in Cardiff. That was before Welsh rugby was rocked by Mike Ruddock’s exit and a crippling injury list to their top players. Now Williams believes the fit again Dragons can roar again at the Millennium Stadium this Saturday.

He said: “We know we weren’t a flash in the pan. We produced some performances that could have beaten any side but then we were hit by so many injuries that the team broke up.”

“But perhaps we actually benefited from that because we have got some great young players who have come through during the injuries. It’s great to have everyone back but we’re not only back to full strength, we also have a stronger squad.”

Williams is one of only four survivors from the side that beat Australia at the Millennium Stadium last November. Now he hopes to rekindle the magic saying: “It would be great if history could repeat itself this Saturday. Given the occasion and the history behind the game last season, it was probably one of my most memorable tries.”

“It was a great moment but we’re all a year down the line, we’re a better side now, but so are they.”

Scarlets flanker Gavin Thomas has replaced Chris Horsman on the bench after the Worcester prop was ruled unavailable by English Premiership bosses. Wales Coach Gareth Jenkins said: “It’s a regrettable situation with Chris but having Gavin is a real plus point.”
