Millennium Stadium continues to battle on against ticket touts

Sergeant has also taken the bold step to name tyrant traders in the latest attempt to quash ticket touting. The warning highlights the persistent attitude of the Millennium Stadium and the WRU to crack down on black market tickets.

In September 2005 the WRU/Millennium Stadium formally announced its policy to maintain a tough stance on organisations and individuals selling on tickets at inflated prices in the secondary market – both on the streets and in particular via website auction sites.

Sanctions available to the Millennium Stadium and Welsh Rugby Union include the withdrawal of all ticket allocation to the organisations or individuals found in breach of the ticket policy.

The Millennium Stadium has cranked it up a gear and is now monitoring a number of persistent offenders including:

“We want to urge people not to deal with these rouge traders, we’ve been working tirelessly with the Department of Culture, Media and Sport over the past 12 months along with other major sporting venues, government bodies and concert promoters to stamp out these type of activities,” said Paul Sergeant.

“We haven’t given up and it’s a timely reminder to those people who are trying to profit, that we are moving forward quite dramatically and building our case with the government.”

“On certain auction websites we have seen Wales v Canada tickets on sale for over £30 when we still have tickets available for a maximum £10!

“We have the names and details of regular touts on popular auction sites and these have been passed on to the Inland Revenue”

“We just want to warn people and urge them to buy from official sources only and not sell their tickets to these touts to avoid getting caught up in the consequences of black market touting” he added.
