Wales face England

The Blues centre flew home from France on Sunday nursing a fractured cheekbone and eye socket after Saturday’s game with Argentina. Although Hewitt’s injury was suffered in an accidental clash of heads, the Blues three quarter is expected to undergo surgery this week.

Rhys Shellard’s late try in Saturday’s 13-10 defeat at the hands of the Pumas earned Wales the bonus point they required to make it through to the 5th-8th play off group this week, and Saturday’s other results mean Wales will play England in their initial play off match in Vichy on Wednesday (4pm BST). The winner of that game will play off for fifth against the winner of the Ireland v Argentina match, also to be played on Wednesday at Vichy.

Wales have no other major injury concerns at this stage although Rhys Gill required suffered a gash to his ear on Saturday and Daniel George a bruised sternum. Both should be okay for the game against the English team who defeated Scotland 31-12 at Riom on Saturday having trailed 9-0 at the interval.
