Wales got off to the perfect start and won their opening match in Pool A against Argentina 33-21. But Wales fell 31-7 to New Zealand in the second match, before overpowering Kenya 36-0 in the third and final match, putting themselves in the box seat for a place in the Cup quarter-finals.

But Argentina pulled off a shock 14-0 win over New Zealand to put themselves in the quarter-finals of the Cup competition at Wales’ expense. Day two of the competition will open at 10.38 (local time) with Wales match against Namibia.

The African side lost all three of their matches in day one, 47-7 to Australia, 52-0 to Fiji, and 29-0 to Scotland. The contest in South Africa is the second event in the new IRB Sevens series, following on from last weekend’s event in Dubai, which saw England winning the Cup competition.
