CALLING LONDON WELSH WOMEN’S RFC OLD GIRLS

CALLING LONDON WELSH WOMEN’S RFC OLD GIRLS

The very first match was against Staines. It was a tough match where LWWRFC struggled for numbers and the final score has now been lost in the mists of time.

One of the founder members, Mary Nettleship, received a bloody nose in that match but that did not stop her rugby successes; she later went on to achieve international honours at number 8 for Wales.

In the early days, the girls were coached by a member of the men’s team but then had the privilege to have John Dawes (ex-British Lion and Welsh International) take an interest. Over the years the club has thrived, achieving promotion four times.

In 2002 the team were runners up in the Challenge Cup South, and in 2004 they won against Olney in an enthralling match which went to extra time and penalty kicks.

To celebrate the club’s anniversary, the girls are hosting a 20th Anniversary Dinner on 21st January 2005. Old girls are warmly invited back to join the current team at this dinner.

Please see www.lwwrfc.org.uk or email 20th@lwwrfc.org.uk for more details. If you know anyone who played for the London Welsh Women’s section, please get in touch.
