The popular music singer, from Haverfordwest, won the honour to perform the National Anthem at Wales’ opening Lloyds TSB Autumn Series clash with South Africa next Saturday on BBC talent show ‘Just up your Street’.

She follows in the footsteps of the likes of Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Kelly Jones (Stereophonics), Aled Jones, Cerys Matthews, Bryn Terfel, Max Boyce, Katherine Jenkins and Hayley Westernra who have all been the curtain raising act at Wales matches.

The Autumn series at the Millennium Stadium will also see Katherine Jenkins and Hayley Westernra return as WRU bosses aim to put on a show for each match including a full programme of pre-match and half time entertainment.

Sweeney and Jones will be hoping to wear their new shirts for the first time against the Tri-nations conquering Springboks next week – with Jonathan Thomas currently serving a suspension – and fans who want to emulate their heroes can now buy replica jerseys in all WRU outlets.

The four match series starts with coach Mike Ruddock’s first in charge on home soil and includes matches against Japan, Romania and a New Zealand side lead by ex-Wales bosses Steve Hansen and Graham Henry. The matches are selling fast and with a free DVD and programme with every ticket stadium manager Paul Sergeant says fans are getting true value for money.

‘We have priced these matches very competitively and also added a number of iniatives so fans are getting much more for their money at Wales matches this year,’ said Sergeant. ‘There is a wonderful programme of pre-match and half time entertainment and quality DVDs and programmes all in the price of a ticket, so we are very much looking forward to a spectacular atmosphere for Mike Ruddock’s first matches in charge and the Millennium Stadium.

‘We have had an excellent response for tickets for the Friday night games, Japan in particular and supporters following the team to these Friday night matches have the rare chance to be able to buy tickets to see Wales take on Tri-Nations champions South Africa and the mighty All Blacks at the Millennium Stadium.’

Tickets are still available priced at £42 and £36 for the Springboks and All Blacks Saturday matches and just £8 per adult £4 per child for the Japan and Romania games which are played on Friday nights.
