Dragons Confirm Kidney Departure

Newport Gwent Dragons have today confirmed that coach Declan Kidney will be leaving to take up the head coaching position with Leinster.
Declan was made aware that a position in the Leinster coaching team was available. He spoke to Tony Brown about the vacant position with Leinster and this was discussed devoid of contractual obligations at a human level taking strongly into consideration his family life.
Chief Executive for The Dragons, Andy Marinos stated, “Our club policy is based on that we work with people as people first rather than solely as coaches or players and we would not stand in Declan’s way of a possible move back to Ireland where his family are based and where his family life would not be as disrupted and affected. This is a decision based on human relations rather than contractual and as such we feel it is appropriate to release Declan from his contract with immediate effect.”
Declan Kidney concluded, “I have been extremely happy in my association with Newport Gwent Dragons and would like to state that my decision is based solely on family reasons alone and would like to thank Tony Brown and the Dragons management for facilitating my move back to Ireland.”
