Former Wales Star To Coach Glasgow Club

Former Wales international threequarter Robert Ackerman has taken over as joint coach of Scotland Premiership club Glasgow Hawks and will team up with a fellow British Lion Peter Wright, who will be coaching the forwards.
Ackerman, who won 22 caps from 1980-1985 as a wing/centre, also toured with the Lions to New Zealand in 1983, while Wright was a tourist Down Under in 1993 and won 19 caps for Scotland from 1992-1996.
Having played much of his early senior rugby with Newport, following his father into the Gwent club’s side, Robert then appeared for Cardiff, but switched to Whitehaven Rugby League in April 1986.
After spells with Leeds and Cardiff Institute as a Rugby League player, he taught and coached in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1996, but then followed his father to Scotland and coached West of Sotland three years ago.
Ackerman, now aged 42, has also taught at Glasgow Academy, Glenalmond and in Ayrshire. Last season the Hawks finished as runners-up in the BT Cellnet Cup and fifth in the Premiership, but the new coaches have just lost Under-21 caps Euan Murray and Graeme Morrison to the Glasgow Warriors for their Celtic League and Heineken Cup campaigns.
