The Welsh Rugby Union, today, received final clearance to build their £10m state-of-the-art National Academy training centre at Island Farm, Bridgend.
The Welsh Assembly, who retained a right of veto over the project after it had been approved by Bridgend Council last month, have now given the project the all clear.
‘We are extremely pleased with the news we recieved from the Welsh Assembly today, which puts a final seal of approval on this prestigious project,’ said WRU director of rugby Terry Cobner.
‘The Island farm development is a key element of the WRU’s facility strategy. The National academy, under-pinned by five regional academies, will ensure that our best youngsters have training facilities equal to, if not better than, any in the world.
‘We would like to thank Jeff Jones, the leader of the Bridgend council for his continued support and his recognition of the needs of Welsh rugby and of the mutual benefit and gain of this project for Bridgend and the WRU – and also the developers Macob Projects Ltd for their most genorous offer to finance the initiative.
