Taylor Signs For The Scarlets

Mark Taylor will join the new Llanelli province as the Scarlets strengthen their squad for a fresh assault on Europe next season.
And the British Lion will be followed across from Swansea to Llanelli by caretaker coach Paul Moriarty who has been handed the forwards coach role at the new region.
Wales centre Taylor, who had been tipped to join Gwent, has agreed terms with Llanelli where he will link up with several national teammates including fellow British Lions Scott Quinnell and Robin McBryde.
However, the move is sure to heighten speculation over the future of fellow Wales centre Leigh Davies who has been linked with a return to former club Neath.
Taylor, who turned 30 last February, was recalled to the Test team during the Six Nations after missing the autumn series through injury and becomes the seventh player to leave St Helen’s within the last two months after the club entered temporary administration.
Kevin Morgan and Ben Evans have also quit cash-strapped Swansea who have this week, however, managed to safeguard the services of British Lions Colin Charvis and Scott Gibbs.
Meanwhile, former Wales forward Moriarty will join the Llanelli province as assistant coach in a move that symbolises the new ‘unified’ thinking in Welsh rugby.
The abrasive back-rower, once a figure of hate at Stradey Park during his playing days with bitter rivals Swansea, is the All Whites caretaker coach following the departure of John Connolly in late March.
But older brother Richard, director of rugby at Swansea, confirmed the younger Moriarty will join the Scarlets this summer.
‘Perhaps it is a bit ironic that Paul will be part of the coaching staff at Llanelli considering the history between the two clubs, but I guess it is just a sign of the times,’ said Moriarty.
‘As you mature you can see the bigger picture which is often not so obvious when you are younger. It will be very interesting to see how the supporters take to him.
‘But I think it is a good career move for him as a coach.’
