BRIDGEND 19, LLANELLI 5

Welsh Premiership leaders Bridgend made it five out of five in the battle for the domestic title as they beat the Heineken Cup quarter-finalists with something to spare at the Brewery Field.
The home side’s first half onslaught carried them into a 19 point lead and the Scarlets were never able to recover after the break.
The reliable boot of full back Gareth Cull punished Llanelli severely in the first-half as he kicked two early penalties and then added the conversion of a try by centre David Bishop. Two more penalties followed and the points were more or less in the bag at the break.
It didn’t help Llanelli’s cause that No 8 Scott Quinnell spent 10 minutes in the sin-bin for punching home scrum half Sililo Martens, but with seven top flight players rested they never looked like getting on top. The only high spot for the Scarlets came in the dying moments when full back Barry Davies crossed from a close range penalty.

Scorers: Bridgend: Try: D Bishop; Con: G Cull; Pens: G Cull 4. Llanelli: Try: B Davies.
