The building of the £1.3million ‘Phoenix Project’, for Fishguard and Goodwick Sports Club of which Fishguard and Goodwick RFC has been a member for 34 years, is now underway. It will be a state-of-the-art piece of infrastructure for the use of the rugby club, the local football, cricket and squash clubs, brass band and other organisations.

The project has received over £1million in public investment, with the rugby club making a £50 000 contribution which includes a £20 000 Millennium Stadium Charity Trust grant and a £5000 FSA grant.

Fishguard and Goodwick RFC is one of four Pembrokeshire clubs who received Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust grants for the upgrade of club facilities with Crymych, Penbroke and Pembroke Dock also benefitting. The grants were part of a total investment of £500 000 from MSCT into facilities at grassroots clubs, which has been match funded by the clubs themselves through fundraising. The Trust’s income is generated through a levy on every ticket purchased for public events at the Stadium

WRU TV went along to the Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust presentation event for rugby clubs in the area, and got an insight into the thinking behind the Phoenix Project and the community involvement that has made the vision a reality.
