A try from Tom Prydie was all the Dragons had to show for their efforts as they went down to a 31-5 defeat.Â
Irish winger Tommy Bowe reminded Lions head coach Warren Gatland of his finishing abilities as he went over for the opening score on his first start for the Ravens since December.
Stuart Olding and Darren Cave added further scores and Paul Marhall’s try secured a bonus point.
And with Glasgow going down to defeat at Parc y Scarlets, the win means Ulster now lead the table by four points.
It was a disappointing result for the Dragons but they had missed an early chance to open the scoring, Prydie putting a simple penalty wide after just a couple of minutes.
There were plenty of errors in the opening quarter but Bowe opened the scoring after 24 minutes.
Ruan Pienaar converted and the Dragons were then dealt a blow when fly-half Dan Evans was needlessly yellow carded for dissent. The resulting penalty was kicked by South African Pienaar and the outstanding back, playing at fly-half for the evening, then converted Olding’s score to extend the lead.
The Irish side were finding their attacking game as they looked to bounce back from their Heineken Cup exit to Saracens last weekend. And Cave soon added Ulster’s third score, Pienaar once again converting a couple of minutes before the break.
Up against it in the second half, the Dragons did rally though Marshall secured Ulster’s bonus point with a try once again converted by Pienaar.
Prydie responded for the Dragons, crossing after a break from Wales’ Toby Faletau left the Ulster defence at sixes and sevens.
But replacement Steffan Jones put the conversion wide as the Dragons returned home pointless.Â
