The visitors backed up their impressive victory over the Ospreys on Boxing Day with this victory over the Dragons which condemned their rivals to their eighth defeat of the season.

The Dragons will rue a host of missed kicks which could have won them the game they dominated for periods.  But it was the Scarlets, who made 14 changes for the clash that took the honours.

Jason Tovey and Dan Newton both missed early penalty attempts for their sides but the visitors were soon ahead with flanker Jon Edwards touching down after a flowing move.

Newton kicked the extras and Tovey then opened his side’s account with a penalty after 24 minutes.

Both sides missed further first half penalties, Newton for the Scarlets and Lewis Robling for the hosts.

The Scarlets then lost Kieran Murphy to the sin-bin just before the break and Tovey narrowed the deficit with his second penalty.

The second period was just as tight as the first and again consisted of missed opportunities with the boot.

Former Dragons fly-half Aled Thomas came off the bench to kick the only points of the second period to cement the win for the visitors and leave the Dragons with just two victories this season.
