Ospreys end campaign on a high

The Ospreys bounced back from the disappointment of defeat last weekend to end their European Cup campaign on a high and extend their unbeaten home run in the tournament to 16 matches.

A well deserved 29-17 victory over Pool winners Toulon will lift the confidence at the Liberty Stadium, especially they way they dominated the second period.

The visitors opened the scoring with tries from Scotland full back Rory Lamont and Australian scrum half Matt Henjak and Jonny Wilkinson easily converted both.

The French side did play the better rugby in the opening exchanges but Dan Biggar’s boot kept the Ospreys in touch.

Wilkinson kicked an early second half penalty to extend his side’s lead but then the Ospreys threw everything at Toulon and the introduction of a fit again Shane Williams after 55 minutes pepped up the home back line and it took him only six minutes to create the opening for Nikki Walker to score.

Skipper Alun Wyn Jones crossed later on to complete the win, but after three years in the last eight the Ospreys will be reduced to a watching brief this season.
