Ma’afu was driven over from a close range line-out to crown an excellent night’s work from the home forwards that saw them make up for their opening defeat at the Arms Park against Edinburgh and temporarily move into second place in the RaboDirect PRO12 table.
But while the fourth try raised a smile, the biggest cheer of the night was reserved for Jamie Roberts, who crashed over for his first Blues try since May, 2010, to put his side on the road to an impressive victory.
Rhys Patchell kick-started the victory march with an early penalty and then Dan Fish weaved his way through the Treviso defence to score from 40 metres out. Patchell converted, then added the extras to Roberts’ score and the Blues were clear at 17-3 at half-time.
Patchell’s second penalty extended the lead to 17 points two minutes after the break before Treviso hit back with a Robert Barbieri try from a close range scrum. A Kris Burton penalty then cut the gap to seven points with 15 minutes to go.
But Tovey and Ma’afu’s tries sandwiched a second for Barbieri and the Blues won well in the end as they notched their first win at the Arms Park since their return this season.
