Steffan Jones grabbed the game’s first try but the Scottish outfit crossed for three tries before the interval. Greig Tonks, Greig Laidlaw and Netani Talei, who will join Dragons next season, all crossed.
The visitors ralled in the second-half with Dan Lydiate powering over to score and Tom Prydie intercepting, but the hosts held on for a 31-24 win.Â
Edwards’ men made a bright start and Jones crossed the whitewash after just four minutes following a barnstorming charge from Lion-in-waiting Toby Faletau.
Prydie converted but the lead lasted just 10 minutes before Tonks collected a sublime Harry Leonard chip.
Laidlaw converted and soon burrowed over for a try of his own. He was quickly joined on the scoreboard by Newport-bound Talei, who powered past the whitewash from close-range.
Prydie and Laidlaw exchanged shots at goal as Edinburgh entered the break leading 25-10.
Laidlaw kept the scoreboard ticking in the second-half as the Dragons slipped further and further behind.
But they rallied in the final quarter as Lydiate raced over for a try on his final appearance for the region, with Prydie dissecting the posts.
Their mini-revival continued as Prydie intercepted Nick de Luca’s pass to race 60 metres but it was not enough as Edinburgh clung on for the victory.
