The South African tight-head recently joined the region and his first appearances in the LV=Cup clashes with Harlequins and Ospreys.
But Harris will get his first taste of competitive league action on Friday, with Munster on their way to Newport on-back-of two Welsh victories.
He said: “I like the heavy stuff and you must stand your ground in the scrum but also contribute around the pitch. It’s gone well but there’s still a lot to work on, especially for me adapting to the mindset of the northern hemisphere with the longer scrums.
“I’ve been getting used to that and the structures and calls, because I was at Western Province for eight years so it’s not going to come overnight and my first few weeks have been busy.”
Hallam Amos returns to the starting line-up on the wing after being released from Warren Gatland’s Wales squad.
Brothers Dorian and Geraint Rhys Jones line-up at outside-half and full-back respectively, with Tyler Morgan making his first league start since he was injured in the Dragons’ clash with the Ospreys.
Harris starts his first match in Newport at loose-head prop alongside Elliot Dee and Dan Way, with his countryman Rynard Landman captaining the side from the second-row. Ross Wardle makes his first league start of the season after rupturing knee ligaments in April.
Munster head coach Anthony Foley has made seven changes ahead of the visit to Rodney Parade, including a start for another Guinness PRO12 newcomer in South African utility back Pat Howard.
New Ireland cap Robin Copeland returns to take his place at No.8 while hooker Eusebio Guinazu also makes his first appearance for the province.
Harris added: “We have been working hard and everybody is buying into what we are doing – there’s a great work ethic here towards the set piece.
“We will build every week and try to improve because if you are not growing then you are dead.”
