Matthew Screech

Screech came through the Cardiff Rugby age grade system and went on to play for Cardiff RFC in the Welsh Premiership as well as Bedwas, Pontypridd and represented Wales at Under-16, Under-18 and Under-20 level.
Screech joined Dragons in the 2013/14 season and made his debut against Ulster at Rodney Parade in 2013 and he become a mainstay of the pack at Dragons going on to make 163 appearances in eight seasons during his first stint at the club.
Screech was a key cog in the Dragons wheel and the towering lock drove his team throughout an encouraging 2019/20 campaign culminating in him winning the league’s Ironman Award for playing the most minutes in the competition. The following season his fine form led to a first call up for Wales and he made his international debut against Argentina at the Principality Stadium in July 2021.
The second row departed the Dragons to return to Cardiff Rugby ahead of the 2021/2022 season and went on to make 15 appearances in his debut campaign. Beginning the 2022/2023 season in the capital, Screech made three more appearances before returning to Newport and rejoining the Dragons on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
