Narberth make it two in a row to move out of Admiral Prem drop zone

Jake Newman kicked four conversions for Brecon in their defeat against Narberth

Narberth’s battle for survival in the Admiral Premiership got a timely boost as they defeated Brecon 39-28 to move out of the relegation zone.

Scrum-half Lewys Gibby scored twice in a man-of-the-match performance for the Otters, who were also awarded two penalty tries. Wing Dean James was their other try scorer, while Osian Evans kicked two conversions and two penalties.

Brecon fought back in the second half, having trailed 26-7 at half time, and left with a bonus point. Aaron Bramwell, Logan McIntosh and Daf Edwards were their scorers, with all four tries converted by Jake Newman.

The win made it back-to-back triumphs at home for Narberth and took them out of the bottom two and three points clear of Bonymaen – who dropped into it after losing 29-23 at Newbridge. Narberth have three games while Bonymaen have four.

Bottom side Newcastle Emlyn edged closer to the drop after they were defeated 53-21 at Bargoed. It leaves them 15 points from safety with just four games remaining

Full-back Dylan Williams and wing Ashley Norton both scored twice, with Will Gregory, Tom Rice, Rhys Thomas and Morgan Edwards also among the Bargoed try scorers. Outside half Josh Prosser kicked the other 13 points.

At the other end of the table, leaders Merthyr moved seven points clear at the top with a 52-13 win on the road at Cardiff Met.

Scrum-half Dafydd Land and wing Fin Baker both bagged braces for the Ironmen to set up their comfortable eight-try victory. Lock Aled Evans, Centre Ryan Hughes, Adam Hoskins and a penalty try were also on the scoresheet for the visitors. Ben Jones kicked four conversions and Jacob Lloyd one.

Tom Howlett kicked two penalties and added the extras to Max Fergusson’s try for Met. Merthyr also still have a game in hand on Pontypridd.
