Hooker's duel setting the benchmark in SRC

04.02.23 - Wales v Ireland - Guinness Six Nations - Prematch pyrotechnics at Principality Stadium

Ebbw Vale’s Joe Franchi and Carmarthen Quins’ Lewis Morgan are the unlikely pacesetters in the try scoring charts as the Super Rygbi Cymru season reaches the business end of the season.

The two hookers have been going toe to toe in recent weeks and their rich vein of form hasn’t desserted them as teams vie for the knockout spots.

Both players would be grateful for their teammates in the engine room as they have benefitted from well constructed lineouts close to the line to be the beneficiary of five pointers at regular intervals. With 15 tries next to their name, they have clear daylight between their nearest challengers, Cardiff’s Dewi Cross (11) and Newport’s Ben Roach who has made a late run in recent weeks.

RGC’s Billy McBryde leads the way as the leading points scorer in the league with 183 points, 10 points clear of his nearest challenger, Pontypool’s Kieran Meek. Ebbw Vale fly half Evan Lloyd is in third spot with 161 points while Llandovery’s Jack Maynard is in fifth placew with 111 points but he boasts the best success rate with his boot, with a 84% strike rate.
