Bonymaen’s Lawrence Thomas might yet qualify for the freedom of Merthyr at the end of the season after his last gasp penalty earned his side a famous 24-22 win over Admiral Premiership leaders Pontypridd.
It was only the second league defeat of the season for Ponty, who are now only six points clear of Merthyr at the top of the table but having played two games more. The top two meet at Sardis Road on Saturday.
Ponty thought they had snatched it with a fourth try in the dying moments from Rob Jones to edge ahead 22-21, but home outside half Thomas had other ideas as he kicked his side to a historic first win over the visitors.
No 8 Rhys Leonard, centre Steffan Pryce-Griffiths and wing Harrison Doe were the Bonymaen try scorers but were all converted by Thomas.
The win moves 11th placed Bonymaen fourth points clear of second from bottom Narberth, with a game in hand, and ended their run of three straight defeats.
Brecon got the better of Newbridge 32-31 thanks to two tries from Tom Richards among five for the home side. Cardiff Met were victorious 27-20 at Ystrad Rhondda.
