An opening 31-12 defeat to France was followed by a 12-0 triumph over Scotland. Now they face Ireland (12.00pm) and England (2.00pm) on Tuesday, 2 April.
“It was a bit of a mixed bag on the opening day, but that’s only to be expected with so many of the girls playing at this level for the first time,” said head coach, Lillicrap.
“I was pleased with the courage and character both line-ups displayed. We scored two tries against both the French and the Scots, but we also created a lot more opportunities.
“That is what we have been working on since Saturday – making the most of our chances. The nerves should be a little bit less moving forward and I hope we see some real growth in the players with those two games under their belts.
“It is a really big deal for these girls to play in a tournament like this, especially with it being at home in front of all their families. It was emotional for them.”
The French have yet to lose a game at this level since the tournament began two years ago and cruised through their opening day assignments with a 34-0 win over Scotland and then their five try triumph over Wales.
Now Wales have to face Ireland, who went down 19-12 to England in their opening game at the weekend before beating Italy 20-0. England drew 19-19 with the Italians.
“We’ve had to make a change in our squad because of an injury to centre Hannah Tudor. She has been replaced by Leah Stewart, who will start on the wing in the opening game against Ireland on Tuesday,” said Lillicrap.
“We will be looking for improvements and we’ve highlighted the need to lower our tackles and our ball carrying height. We also need to be a little bit more composed to ensure we get the maximum return from our chances.
“This tournament is all about learning the lessons from previous games.”
