Wales Under 20’s previous highest score in the Six Nations before their 65-34 win in Scotland last night was 46 points against Italy and head coach Jason Strange was quick to heap praise on his side for their attacking intent.

The Welsh back line looked capable of ripping holes in the home defence every time they got the ball and Strange and his coaching team had eight tries to savour on a record breaking night at the Boradwod Stadium.

Not even the six tries scored by the gallant home side could dent Strange’s admiration of the attitude showed by his players in a win that keeps them in the hunt for a top two finish. Now they have to build on this performance before meeting Ireland, one place above them in the table, in Round 4 at Parc Eirias on Saturday, 11 March.

“It was an outstanding attacking display. In getting 65 points away from home, the boys deserve a huge amount of credit for the way they came here and did that,” said Strange.

I know we conceded six tries, but I’d prefer to look at all the positives that came out of the game first and to say how much I enjoyed watching that performance. We do need to be a bit more resilient going forward.

“We defended well in phases, but on the back of their line-out game and some individual defensive errors, we let ourselves down on a couple of occasions. However, that shouldn’t take away from a memorable victory for Wales U20.

“We’ve got it all to play for now when we go to Parc Eirias to face Ireland on 11 March. It’ll be a tough game yet again, but if we can play the way did today, in front of our brilliant home crowd, anything can happen.”

The Irish beat France 27-22 at home to maintain their unbeaten run, while reigning Junior World Champions England made it three bonus-point wins in a row with a 46-0 home win over Italy. It means Wales are currently in third place in the table, three behind Ireland and six behind England.
