Cardiff Blues head coach Danny Wilson was delighted to continue their winning run with a battling 10-3 triumph over Edinburgh Rugby.

The BT Sport Arms Park region made it four Guinness PRO12 wins in-a-row, thanks to an early Dan Fish try and the boot of Rhys Patchell. The victory edged the Blues away from regional rivals the Newport Gwent Dragons, and two points closer to eighth placed Glasgow Warriors, who played out a 20-20 draw at the Ospreys.

And Wilson was glad to keep the momentum rolling with the hard-fought win.
He said: “After the Dragons won they jumped up, so we needed to win to jump clear again and open some breathing space. The win also puts a bit of pressure on the Ospreys-Glasgow game. If Glasgow lose then we will be there or thereabouts with their league position.

“We have some momentum now in the league and have clawed back the gap. It shows it only takes a few wins to move up in this league. We will keep building performances to see where we can get to in the league.

“But it was also important to keep winning at home. This was our fifth in a row here and that’s great for the fans and to try and get more people through the door.”

The Blues are the league’s top try scorers with 32 so far this season, but Wilson was pleased with the defensive grit his side showed.

He said: “It was a very young squad and we finished with three academy players on the pitch. But we need to keep working with this group through the Six Nations. It’s a win but we know we left a fair few opportunities and points out there.

“It was also a good defensive effort which is something we had targeted. We were aware of their driving lineout threat but we dealt with that. We also showed a lot more intent to come with a lot more line-speed because you can’t give teams too much time on the ball. We were far more aggressive in that area.”
