After being named captain of the British and Irish Lions for this summer’s tour to Australia, Sam Warburton says his initial focus will be to perform for the team.
The flanker was named as just the fourth Welshman in history to captain the Lions, following yesterday’s squad announcement.
But he says despite leading the upcoming tour, it’s vital he performs as part of the 37-man squad.
“The first priority of a captain is performing. Players respect a captain who plays well and delivers for the team,” he said.
“Captaincy is fine for me. I’ve done it 20 times for Wales now so I’m comfortable doing that at international level.
