The Emirates Airline Edinburgh Sevens will see the world champions take on top seeds in Pool D, Argentina first up before Wales tackle big hitting Samoa then Georgia.

Hosts Scotland face auld enemy England in their pool on day one, while World Series leaders South Africa have been handed the toughest of challenges in their pool against defending champions New Zealand.

DFP – Leaderboard

Paul Treu’s Boks currently lead the race for the overall title by 28 points from second-placed England and look well set to land a first ever IRB Sevens crown but any slip-up at Twickenham the previous weekend would make their Pool A challenge against the Kiwis, France and USA even more daunting.

Hong Kong Sevens champions Fiji line up at Murrayfield as second seeds and top Pool B with matches against Australia and Iberian neighbours Portugal and Spain.

Kenya, currently ranked sixth in the world after reaching three Cup semi finals this season and one final in Adelaide, top Pool C and face England, Scotland and Canada.

Argentina are the top seeds in Pool D, the Rugby World Cup Sevens runners-up drawn against Samoa, Georgia and World Champions Wales.

“The scene is set for an incredible climax to this 10th Anniversary IRB Sevens World Series in Scotland, the home of Sevens rugby,” said IRB Sevens Manager Beth Coalter.

“South Africa have been outstanding this season and have certainly put themselves into the strongest of positions to clinch a historic first ever Series.

“The rugby has been so competitive this year, though, with so many teams capable of pulling off shock wins – there may yet be a twist in the tail.”

With 104 points South Africa currently lead England (76) by 28 but the battle for second place is fierce with Fiji (74), Argentina (68), New Zealand (64) and Kenya (58) all still in contention.
