Scarlets U18 claim third place

The fight to claim third place was a tough one for the Scarlets as the Dragons coasted into an eleven point lead in the first half.

Danny Ellis contributed with two penalties for the Dragons. Coupled with a try from Nathan Preece, the Dragons had the initiative for ninety percent of the first half and were about to take their clean sheet and eleven point advantage into the changing rooms with them.

However, the Scarlets showed great resolve and a Daniel Newton penalty just before half time put the Scarlets on the board, cutting the deficit to just one try and providing the inaugural U18 Reebok Regional Champions with a lifeline for the second half.

After the restart it was one way traffic for the Scarlets as they blazed a comeback trail into the Dragons’ defensive line.

Rhys Williams and Jason Harris crossed for tries. Daniel Newton converted one of the tries and added a penalty; whilst Jason Harris added the extra two points to his own try.

Having lost out to the Ospreys in last year’s final, the Scarlets finished the 2006-2007 campaign in third with a 20-11 victory.
