‘Pooler’ gained a good 40-10 win at Blackwood with Byron Hayward (two tries and five conversions) having a new partner in Richard Rees of Dunvant, who came on as a replacement for another ex-Dunvant player, Nicky Lloyd, and scored with his first touch.
Bonymaen did Pontypool a huge favour by preventing Aberavon from scoring a try at Parc Mawr. Despite losing skipper Darren Poland with a broken jaw, Bonymaen wing Chris Batsford went over, but fly half Jamie Davies landed six penalties in an 18-11 win for the visitors.
A late Gareth King try swung the game Carmarthen Quins’ way to defeat Cross Keys 18-9 and a penalty by replacement Mark Jones earned Tondu an 8-8 draw at Rumney.
Llandovery ran in 10 tries in a 65-0 scoreline at plucky Treorchy; Narberth fly half Simon Daniel helped the Otters gain a splendid 30-23 win over Bedwas; two tries by skipper Damion Cooper helped Newbridge win 30-3 against Glamorgan Wanderers and two tries by fly half Mark Roper took Llanharan to a 27-11 win at Beddau, while Whitland’s Dan Griffiths was outstanding as the Borderers beat Tredegar 38-11.
Brynmawr threw Division Two open after a stunning 28-7 win over leaders Llangennech with young fly half Ross Watts ruling the roost by scoring 23 of his side’s points. The former Swansea University and Abertillery player, ran in one try, converted it, added the extra points to a try by Jason Hill, then landed a hat-trick of penalties. Llangennech’s only reply was from fly half Mark Jones, who converted his own try to take his tally to 336 in 25 matches, while the Watts effort rose him to exactly 200 in league matches.
The UWIC students pushed on for a promotion place after having lost a midweek match to Carmarthen Athletic. They bounced back with a 45-20 win at Abertillery with Darren Berry and Gareth Chapman scoring their 15th tries of the campaign.
Merthyr led 14-11 at Corus when half-time was called, but then spurted to a 31-11 win, while
Llantrisant had a splendid 30-16 success over Maesteg after gaining first-half tries from David Owen (brother of Wales forward Michael) and wing Kevin Oliver (in his second match).
Llantwit Fardre are still fighting for a top-five finish and won 21-15 at Cwmavon with a late burst;
Rhymney gained a much-needed win as they pipped Dunvant by 18-17 with wing John Thurston’s two tries taking him to 15 and bottom club Hirwaun held second-placed Carmarthen Athletic to 8-10 at the break before losing 8-41.
East Rugby.
Rhydyfelin are closing in on the Division Four title after a mighty 30-12 win away to Newport HSOB, while leaders Brecon crashed by 19-3 at Gilfach Goch. Greg Perrett’s try helped Abercarn beat Llanishen 10-8 and Pill Harries scored four in a 28-3 success over Cwmbran.
Division Three leaders Penygraig survived a fright at Tonyrefail before winning 24-19 after being 9-7 down at the interval. Ystrad Rhondda claimed a 34-10 win over Risca, while Pencoed edged a 26-23 win at Dinas Powys as Gareth David scored a try, three penalties and a conversion. Builth Wells were made to work hard for a 24-7 win at Mountain Ash; Abergavenny scored a good 25-14 win at Ynysybwl and Fleur de Lys won an attractive contest with Bridgend Athletic by 39-22.
Newport Saracens hold the lead in Division Five and won 20-12 at Pontllanfraith. New Tredegar thrashed Old Penarthians 88-0 and Old Illtydians won 33-12 at Penarth.
Richard Heath scored 14 points in Bedlinog’s win over Monmouth; Ynysddu were sunk 12-11 by Usk’s Rob Perry and Bargoed’s won at RTB in Division Six, while the key Division Seven match saw Bettws win 15-3 at Llandaff.
Central Rugby.
Nantymoel received a boost at the top of Division Five when, after defeating Cefn Coed 46-5 they heard that second-placed Banwen had gone down in amazing fashion by 46-10 at Banwen.
Senghnydd gained a splendid 27-6 victory over Nantyffyllon and Pyle gained a much-needed 35-20 win over Pontycymmer.
Dowlais defeated Maesteg Celtic 14-9 in the only Division Six match played, while in Division Seven
Cwmgwrach, skippered by prop Steve Lambert and coached by fly half Lee Tregonning, took the title after a 33-8 beating of Crynant.
North Rugby.
Nant Conwy have lost just one league match in two seasons and on Saturday added the Division Five title to the Six one they gained last season. The 35-0 win over Pwllheli gave skipper Peredur Ellis and his team the title with coach Mark Jones finishing his stint with the club.
Wrexham gave their season a late boost by defeating Mold 18-15 and Rhyl beat Dolgellau 26-14, even though the latter were the only club to defeat Nant Conwy this season.
In Division Six, Denbigh scored a good 30-20 win over Machynlleth and Colwyn Bay won 22-15 at Rhos. West Rugby
Felinfoel, at the top of Division Three, were rocked by a 23-6 loss at second-placed Cwmllynfell and Glynneath made it a double shock by sending Cardigan home 23-10 losers.
Waunarlwydd made further progress with a 39-15 scoreline against Aberystwyth and Tonmawr stop the riot with a 25-3 beating of Trimsaran. Bottom club Ystradynlais made a good effort at Vardre, losing by only 23-10, and Birchgrove turned back Aberavon Quins by 30-19.
In Division Four, Pontyberem and Bryncoch kept abreast at the top with wins, but Pontyberem have a game in hand, while Maesteg Quins kept up the chase by beating Kidwelly 28-6.
Trebanos lead Division Six after they won 34-7 at Hendy and Llandeilo lost 18-15 at Gowerton, where the winners are still also chasing the title, as are Lampeter, who won 21-18 at Glais.
Cwmgors gained the Division Six title after a 68-10 win over Pembroke Dock Quins, despite Milford Haven’s 34-20 beating of Penygroes.
Pontardawe hit the century mark in Division Seven as they blasted out bottom club Llangwm 111-0 and Llanybydder beat Swansea Uplands 20-17.
