Robinson Is The Dangerman

Llanelli know British Lions and England flier Jason Robinson will be the dangerman for their visit to Sale Sharks in the third round of pool matches in the Heineken Cup on Friday (KO 7.45pm).

But the Scarlets have vowed not to single out Robinson for any special attention. They know his value both as a potent attacking force, but also as a decoy for others.

The ‘Billy Whizz’ factor was raised during the Scarlets’ video analysis this week and two players in particular are aware of Robinson’s talents.

Scott Quinnell lined up alongside him on the Lions tour of Australia and club captain Leigh Davies came up against the rugby league convert during his spell in the English premiership with Bristol.

“Jason is a fantastic player. Everyone knows about his ability to run with the ball and he has learned the game of rugby union very quickly since his move from league,” said Quinnell.

“But Sale also have a back row which is a class act and two strong centres. If we watch one man too much we will be in danger of letting them through in other areas.

“That’s something we will be working hard to avoid. We have to have faith in our defensive systems, stick to our game plan and let them worry about us.”

**What do you think, what do Llanelli need to do to beat Sale?

Davies is also confident that the Scarlets have plenty of talent and pace for Sale to worry about and won’t be looking out for Robinson to the exclusion of anyone else.

“I played against Jason when he was at Bath and I was at Bristol and know all about his talent,” said Davies.

“But we won’t necessarily be looking for him, we will just be concentrating on our own game and the talent in our own side. We know we have a tough task ahead, but we also know we can go to these places and win.

“You have to sneak an away win somewhere in the Heineken Cup or you are not going to progress and if we don’t pull it off we’ll be in for a torrid time the week after for their return visit to Stradey Park.”
