A Welsh Rugby Union planning application to build a WRU centre of excellence in Bridgend has been rejected by the Bridgend Borough Council.

WRU chairman Glanmor Griffiths responded with the following comments:

‘The decision is a major setback to the Welsh Rugby Union`s plans to upgrade its developmental programmes.

‘Here was a golden opportunity to put in place a facility of real quality and potential and one which would have benefited generations of potential Welsh Rugby stars.

‘However this set back will not deter the Union from progressing with its aim of making available to all its aspiring participants the facilities so essential for them to reach their full potential.’
