‘The score didn’t reflect the performance of my players,’ said Lewis. ‘I was extremely pleased with the way my side played, we defended well against a very good team.
‘In terms of possession we dominated and it was just one of those games where we couldn’t convert pressure into points.
‘We also missed four penalty kicks and, if they go over, then the game takes on a very different complexion altogether.’
Over 100 loyal Bridgend fans made the journey to southern France and Lewis is confident the Brewery Field will be heaving on Saturday.
‘I’m sure the supporters will turn out in force for what should be a very entertaining and intriguing match,’ he said. ‘I’m certainly looking forward to the game so I guess the supporters will be as well.’
But there was also a warning from Lewis for supporters and players alike.
‘One thing is for sure we won’t be underestimating Pau. The days of French sides not travelling well are gone.
‘They are a good side and are more than capable of coming here and getting a result.
‘We won’t be chasing the game too early as if we concede an early score then we’ll be making it very difficult for ourselves.
‘Twelve points sounds a lot but it’s only two tries and on the evidence of Saturday night then that is well within our grasp, we just have to be patient and take our chances.
‘In a strange way the deficit might improve our performance even more as we know what we have to do from the very first whistle.’
