Welsh and world rugby has been rocked with the news that the Cardiff-based IRB chairman, Vernon Pugh, has had surgery to remove a cancerous kidney tumour at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
Mr. Pugh is a barrister and a former Welsh Rugby Union chairman, who went to Cambridge University and played his rugby with Amman Utd and Cardiff HSOB.
Current WRU chairman Glanmor Griffiths said: “I know I speak on behalf of the whole of Welsh rugby when I wish Vernon a full and speedy recovery.
“Our thoughts are also with his family at this difficult time. Having worked with Vernon down the years I am sure his tenacious attitude to life will see him through his ordeal and he will be back running the IRB sooner rather than later.”
