Harris The Hero As Cardiff Break Their Duck
BORDERS 15, CARDIFF 18
Iestyn Harris kicked six penalties to give Cardiff their first win in the Celtic League.
In a tale of two outside halves, it was the Welshman who stole the show as his Scotland and Lions opposite number Gregor Townsend missed the mark with a seires of kicks that could have won the game for the home side.
Harris edged Cardiff into a 9-3 interval lead as Kevin Utterson and Townsend missed with three penalties between them in the first half.
The home side grabbed a superb try through wing Nikki Walker, which Townsend converted to take the lead at the start of the second half, but a fourth Harris penalty set up a dramatic finale.
Borders created a superb second try through Scott Paterson after a long range attack to grab the lead again. This time Townsend missed the simple conversion from in front of the posts.
That allowed Harris to add two more penalties to give Cardiff a much needed victory.
