Six Tries For The Whites As They Get Back On The Victory Trail

CAERPHILLY 3, SWANSEA 38
Caerphilly crashed to yet another heavy defeat after being blown away at a wind-lashed Virginia Park by a much-improved Swansea.
The home side were swept aside by an All Whites side welcoming the return of
their international big guns Darren Morris, Colin Charvis and Andy Moore.
The trio issued ‘come and get me’ pleas to new Wales boss Steve Hansen after
impressive displays in this one-sided encounter.
But it was Caerphilly who surprisingly played the more enterprising rugby
early on and broke the deadlock when Luke Richards slotted over a penalty.
But that was about as good as it got for the home side who were ruthlessly
ripped apart by the whirlwind Whites.
They stormed in front when Arwel Thomas blitzed his way through to cross for the first of Swansea’s six tries.
Having toppled Caerphilly in all of their previous seven encounters in the
league, the away side extended the lead when recently axed Welsh star Morris
set up centre Steve Winn who broke clear.
And minutes later Winn was celebrating his second try when Geraint Lewis
threaded the ball out to the pacy centre to allow him to touchdown again.
Forgotten man Thomas was in devastating form with the boot notching four conversions in a row to keep alive his hopes of an international recall.
Caerphilly were dealt a crushing blow when Sione Tuipulotu received his marching orders for an off the ball incident with Lewis.
Down to 14 men, they were unable to stem the Swansea tide and the
increasing pressure paid dividends when the Whites grabbed three more tries
courtesy of Lewis, Shaun Payne and replacement scrum half Rhodri Jones.
The Whites will breathe a huge sigh of relief after finally putting an end
to a run of four consecutive away day defeats.
And the victory will provide a huge boost as they look to kick start their
bid of clinching a top five spot to cement qualification for next year’s
Heineken Cup.
As for Caerphilly, they have precious little to smile about having only
registered one victory all season leaving them rooted to the bottom of
the table.
