Forwards coach Robin McBryde has sounded a rallying call for Wales to get even better when they take on France in the Rugby World Cup semi final showdown in Auckland on Saturday.

He wants his players to travel even further along the development road they have travelled in the competition so far. McBryde believes France will try to dominate up front but he says Wales has the power to take them on in that quarter.

Speaking after the final Wales training session before the game he declared:”The physicality so far in this competition has been huge and it is going to be even greater against a French side looking to dominate us.

“We will pay France the respect they deserve but we will be looking to focus on our own game. We have been very good at scrum time so far delivering clean ball in an area which has been messy for some teams.

“With Bonnaire and Harinordoquy at the line out France will get up to compete but we have been doing well there so far and we will have to be on the money on Saturday.

“I can’t fault the lineout work we have done so far with Alun Wyn giving great calls and Luke Charteris and Huw Bennett playing some of the best rugby of their careers.

“We also have two other British Lions in the front five and an excellent young back row backing them up. Our back row is learning off each other and getting better and better.”

McBryde also praised the Wales backline for doing their fair share of work at the breakdown.

He said: ”We have come into this competition with a good reputation at the breakdown and it’s not just the forwards.
“All our backs have done a huge amount of work at the breakdown and on Saturday we will be looking for the same again.”

McBryde believes that although the squad are aware of the excitement back home in Wales they are protected from the full affects of the massive pre match build up.

He said: ”The only weight of expectation we put on our shoulders is the pressure we put on ourselves. We are going into this game with the same mindset we took into the match last week. The balance of youth and experience we have in this squad certainly works in our favour.”
