Uncapped Dragons tighthead prop Christian Coleman is one of six uncapped players in the Wales senior men’s squad for the two-Test series this summer.
He sat down with team mate Ben Carter to discuss his call-up, life in camp and who’d be the worst player to sit next to on the plane…
Carter: So, Christian… I’m going to call you Christian because that’s your real name, isn’t it?
Coleman: You can call me anything, you don’t have to call me Christian.
Carter: I just think it will please your mum.
Carter: Christian, where were you when you found out that you were in the in the squad for Japan?
Coleman: I was in the house on my own. I had an email and I don’t have notifications on email, so it’d been there for about half an hour. I opened it and at first I thought someone was having me on but, no.
Carter: How’s the first week of camp been for you? Found it tough?
Coleman: Yeah, it’s been good. Good to meet the other boys. It’s been tough, but I’ve enjoyed it. It’s quick, especially heat chamber it gets tough in there, but it’s been really good to come in for the first time and see what’s like to train here and see what the standard is. It’s good.
Carter: How have you found working with Bomb [scrum coach Adam Jones]?
Coleman: Yeah, really good. Obviously when he was playing, he was one of the best tightheads playing the game. So, it’s been good to get some knowledge out of him and work with him and I’m looking forward to carrying on working with him now for the rest of the camp.
Carter: What do you think it would mean to you putting on the red jersey for Wales?
Coleman: If I get a chance to put it on it’d be massive. This would be huge for me and my family, it’s something I always wanted to do since I was a little kid when I first started playing so yeah, it’d be massive for me and my family.
Carter: Are you looking forward to playing Japan in Japan and what are you looking to get out of it?
Coleman: Personally, whether I play or not just become a better player. Learn, obviously, off everyone who’s been here for a long time. If I do play, obviously, I’d like to get wins.
Carter: Obviously people would be quite disappointed to sit next to you on the plane because you’ll be taking up this [mimes large space with hands] sort of space. So, who would you least like to sit next to on the plane?
Coleman: Well, you’re not a small man yourself, so probably you, you do like to snore. So I’d have to pack my ear plugs (laughing).|
Cheers for the chat Carts.
Carter: Thanks Christian.
